I've got mixed feelings about this. It's an amazing discovery, whatever it is and however old it is, but the guy in charge has a really huge ego. That ticks me off. He's acting like he found the Holy Grail and everyone should kiss his feet (at least, in my opinion, and I'm a curmudgeon).

it's complete bs. claiming that such a large structure was built 12,000 years ago is such an obvious attempt to bolster mystical ideas of some primeval atlantean super-civilization.

the man is not an archaeologist and none of the people on his "team" are archaeologists. they are not competent to analyze the data that they collect and the fact that they have lept to the conclusions they have as early as they have demonstrates their absurd agenda.

My feelings exactly - though I was trying to be tactful! *laughs* Glad I don't have to be. This guy and Graham Hancock should team up in a psuedoscience rampage from space.

It makes me sad that their find could really be something, and they're stumbling all over it.

heh. always available to not be the tactful one.

          check out this article...

          msnbc.msn.com/id/12635805/

look at the picture, it's not even particularly regular. look how much further up the left side is.

""They are jealous," Osmanagic told LiveScience in a telephone interview. "These people are going crazy because they've been teaching students that these [Bosnians] were cavemen, and all of a sudden they are finding complex structures here.""

funny that he says "they" have been finding complex structures. the archaeologists haven't found anything only he has! and all he's found is a few slabs and some voids within the rock.

"Satellite images, thermal analysis and radar studies have been performed at the site, all independently confirming the existence of pyramid-shaped architecture, according to Osmanagic. More importantly, he said, the tests suggest that the layout could not have been man-made."

notice how he says "could not have been man-made". i.e. aliens did it. *snort*

          and notice...

"A self-described archaeologist, who believes the Maya and others are descended from Atlanteans ... has been accepted as a legitimate researcher by many news outlets," writes Archaeology magazine online editor Mark Rose, in reference to Osmanagic's somewhat unorthodox interpretation of the Mayan culture found in his book, "The World of the Maya"

          and then...

"Work is slated to continue at Visoko through at least 2010, by which time Osmanagic believes the research will have vindicated his theories."

2010. just in time for the end of the mayan calendar.

          riiiiight.
